Antonio Vivaldi'sn Birth

The Four Seasons, a popular series of four violin concerti, is his best-known work and is representative of the baroque period in European art music.

His most famous work is Le quattro stagioni (The Four Seasons) of 1723 (part of Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione or The Contest between Harmony and Invention). In essence, it resembles an early example of a tone poem, where he attempted to capture all the moods of the four seasons.
Over 500 other concerti; approximately 350 of these are for solo instrument and strings, and of these about 230 are for violin; the others are for bassoon, cello, oboe, flute, viola d'amore, recorder, lute, and mandolin. Approximately 40 concerti are for two instruments and strings, and approximately 30 are for three or more instruments and strings. (One notable work in this form is the Mandolin Concerto, RV425.)
